Professional Matt Sanding Sealer

Our Professional Matt (Cellulose) Sanding Sealer Spray can be used on a variety of surfaces, not just wood. It has been formulated for us to produce a tough surface for our finishes to adhere to.
Non-darkening, the spray is ideal for use over applied colours like the Intrinsic Colour Collection. Without having to wipe or brush on the sealer, you can be sure there will be no further bleeding or blending of the colours.

Dry in 5 – 15 minutes, this product works best when cut back, or lightly sanded either between coats, or after the final coat for a smooth surface to accept your final finish. Drying time may vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
One or two coats of the Pro Matt Sanding Sealer spray is generally enough to seal the wood. More or fewer coats may be required depending on the porosity of the piece you are working on. Coverage: 1.25 – 1.75m2 per 400ml.

Basic Application

  1. Sand your work down smooth to at least 400 grit and ensure surface is free from dust, grease and moisture. Clean the grain of dust if using (for example, ash);
  2. Shake can with the cap on for at least two minutes before use;
  3. Use appropriate PPE and apply in a well ventilated area. Protect lathe and surfaces;
  4. Using steady passes holding the can 200mm from the surface, apply an even coat;
  5. Once dry, we recommend lightly cutting back the surface for a smoother surface before applying subsequent coats;
  6. Apply a second coat of sealer and repeat above steps until surface is evenly coated;
  7. Before applying your final finish, lightly cut back the sealer once more to a create a smooth surface.

Pro Finishing Tips

  • Sanding sealer is used to close the grain in wood, giving an even surface for finishes to be applied over.
  • Clean the dust off the piece before applying, particularly open grained woods.
  • Lightly apply spray in an arcing motion.
  • Apply with the lathe stationary.
  • Build the product up in thin coats, allowing to dry between coats until the surface is even.
  • A maximum of two coats is often enough.
  • For best results when ‘de-nibbing’, use the shavings from the piece being sealed. Use light pressure. Ensure the sealer is dry first.
  • Getting lines when applying or de-nibbing? Too much heat or it’s not dry enough! Sand back, reapply, allow to dry and use less pressure.
  • Ensure product is dry before applying any finish.
  • Invert the can and spray for a few seconds to clear the nozzle, then firmly replace the lid after use.
  • Store in a cool dry place out of direct light, away from heat sources and protect from freezing.
  • Once opened, use within 6 months.
  • Use in a well ventilated area and be aware of the strong smell. This is normal for cellulose sealers.
