PreThinned Cellulose Sanding Sealer

Our cellulose sanding sealer is prethinned down to our preferred ratio which penetrates deeply into your wood, producing a smooth surface after a few coats over which you can apply your final finish perfectly.
We’ve tried lots of different sanding sealers and have discovered this cellulose sealer and thinners mix to be perfect for both standard, coloured and textured work.

This is our preferred sealer for use over the Intrinsic Colour Collection, or other water based wood stains. Note that it is common for a little of the added colour to be removed from the surface when using this product. See the Intrinsic Colour Collection for specific usage advice.

Basic Application

1: Shake well before use.
2: Sand and finish your work as normal,ensuring the surface is dust free;
3: If applying water based colour, do so before applying the sealer and allow the colours to dry completely;
4: Evenly apply cellulose sanding sealer with a paper towel or cloth and allow to dry thoroughly;
5: Apply more coats until wood surface is smooth, allowing to dry between coats;
6: Lightly de-nib the dry sanding sealer before applying your final surface finish.

Pro Finishing Tips

  • Sanding sealer is used to close the grain in wood, giving an even surface for finishes to be applied over.
  • Clean the dust off the piece before applying, particularly open grained woods.
  • Apply with paper towel.
  • Apply with the lathe stationary.
  • Build the product up in thin coats, allowing to dry between coats until the surface is even.
  • For best results when ‘de-nibbing’, use the shavings from the piece being sealed. Use light pressure.
  • Getting lines when de-nibbing? There is too much heat! Sand back, reapply and use less pressure.
  • When applying over dyes and stains, it is normal for some colour to be removed from the surface.
  • Can also be used to stiffen wood fibres prior to the use of texturing tools.
  • Ensure product is dry before applying any finish.
  • Firmly replace the lid after use.
  • Store in a cool dry place out of direct light, away from heat sources and protect from freezing.
  • Once opened, use within 6 months.
  • Use in a well ventilated area and be aware of the strong smell. This is normal for cellulose sealers.
